Fun Fact in Honor of the USA’s Semiquincentennial

Three US Presidents died on July 4^th.

James Monroe, 5^th President and last of the Founding Fathers to be President, passed away July 4, 1831.

Famously, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, drafter of the Declaration of Independence, our 2^nd and 3^rd Presidents respectively, passed away within hours of each other 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, July 4, 1826. As friends and rivals the two corresponded much in their final years. Adams reportedly stated before dying, “Jefferson still lives.” Jefferson had predeceased Adams by a matter of hours but speculation continues as to whether or not he meant that Jefferson was still breathing or that his thoughts and beliefs as a founder lived on.
